What is Divorce Mediation?

Mediation is an alternative to the contested divorce process with lawyers in Court. The parties meet with a trained, impartial professional to voluntarily work through disagreements to address all of the family issues that must be resolved to complete the divorce process. The mediator will guide the parties through all of the issues which must be resolved in any divorce: parenting, support, division of property and payment of debts.

Divorce mediation is an alternative to resolving conflict in court. A trained, impartial professional helps the couple to voluntarily make the decisions necessary to divorce. The mediator will educate the parties about the law and legal process, and assist them with making a complete agreement.

Mediation reduces stress on the entire family and is less expensive and more satisfying than the process of fighting out issues in public. People in conflict choose mediation to control the process, cost and outcome of divorce. Through mediation they retain privacy and dignity while divorcing or resolving problems.
